## Frequently asked questions

What is the Enneagram test?

An Enneagram test is a questionnaire that estimates which of the nine Enneagram types best matches your core motivations. Ours also estimates your wing, instinctual stacking and tritype. You rate statements about yourself, and your answers are scored against each type and instinct.

Is this Enneagram test really free?

Yes. The test and your full result (core type, wing, instinct, tritype and a score chart for all nine types) are free. You don't need to give an email address or create an account. An optional in-depth AI-generated report is available for a one-time $9.90, but you never need it to see your result.

How long does the test take?

The Quick test has 45 questions and takes about 8 minutes. The Full test has 120 questions and takes about 20 minutes. If you take the Quick test first, you can continue to the Full test without repeating the questions you have already answered.

Should I take the Quick or the Full test?

Start with the Quick test. It gives the same kind of result as the Full test. If your top types are close, or you want a more precise reading of your wing and instinct, continue to the Full test; your answers carry over.

How accurate is this Enneagram test?

No Enneagram test can be certain, because type is about inner motivation, which only you can fully observe. Our scoring is published on our methodology page, and we show a confidence level with every result. If your top two types are close, we say you are leaning toward one. Read the descriptions of your top two or three types to confirm which fits best.

Is there an official Enneagram test?

No single test is the official Enneagram test. Several organisations publish their own questionnaires, some paid and some free. Our test is independent and is not affiliated with any of them.

What is an Enneagram wing?

Your wing is one of the two types next to your core type on the Enneagram circle. It adds a secondary flavour to your personality. For example, a Type 9 can have an 8 wing (9w8) or a 1 wing (9w1).

What are the instinctual variants?

The three instincts are self-preservation (sp), social (so) and sexual or one-to-one (sx). Everyone has all three, but most people lead with one and neglect another. Your dominant instinct combined with your type gives one of 27 subtypes.

What is a tritype?

Tritype is an extension of the Enneagram suggesting that you use one preferred type in each of the three centers: gut (8, 9, 1), heart (2, 3, 4) and head (5, 6, 7). Your core type is one of the three. Tritype is popular but less established than the core model, so treat it as an extra lens.

Can my Enneagram type change?

Most Enneagram teachers say your core type stays the same through life, but how you express it changes a lot with stress, growth and circumstances. If you get different results at different times, read the descriptions carefully and focus on your lifelong motivations.

Do you store my answers?

We store your answers anonymously so your result link works and so we can improve the test. We do not store your IP address, and you do not need to give your name or email. You can delete your result at any time using the link on your result page. See our privacy policy for details.

Is the Enneagram a psychological diagnosis?

No. The Enneagram is a framework for self-reflection and personal growth. It is not a clinical assessment and should not be used to diagnose or treat any condition, or to make hiring decisions. If you are struggling, please contact a qualified professional.
